Winamp to return in 2019 and resume whipping llama ass

Winamp is getting an upgrade for the streaming era

Radionomy plans to release Winamp for Android and iOS in 2019 to make it the universal music player on all devices that users use to consume audio.

TechCrunch's recent report about Winamp making a comeback next year almost made me weep with joy. Through the new app, users will be able to listen to the MP3s in their library, but also in the cloud or to podcasts and streaming radio stations.

"What I see today is you have to jump from one player to another player or aggregator if you want to listen to a radio station, to a podcast player if you want to listen to a podcast - this, to me, is not the final experience", Saboundjian explained.

There's no such thing as "forgetting" about a legend like Winamp, but when I shared that post, I didn't really expect to hear any significant news about the real Winamp anytime soon. Saboundjian said that he wants to make Winamp available on every device. In 1999, AOL acquired Winamp but did not work on it much.

While Winamp has languished on version 5.666 for years, a new version 5.8 leaked online this month, bringing along improvements for Windows 10 compatibility.

IFRC Secretary General appointed Global Commissioner on Climate Change Adaptation
The Commission has identified four major barriers slowing adaptation that it will seek to address. No other reproduction or distribution is permitted without prior written consent.

It was a sad day almost five years ago when the people behind Winamp, the greatest desktop media player ever created (and I'll hear no more about it), announced that the venerable llama-whipping app was going away. TechCrunch got the inside info that the Radiology team is also working on WinAmp 6, the converged audio app planned for 2019. For a little perspective, WinAmp 5.5 was released in 2007.

Version 6 sees Winamp going off in a new direction.

Winamp was quite a popular music app in its heyday. "It's all audio, and it's all searchable in one fashion or another". Winamp version 5.8 will come out in a few days, 18 October to be exact. "It's a huge number", he said.

Bought by the Belgian company Radionomy in 2014 - in which Vivendi now has a majority stake - Winamp still exists as a desktop media player for PC and Mac. "We have a really strong and important community". Or maybe ever. But here we are, with newfound knowledge that Winamp isn't dead.
