Astronomers Discover Ghost Galaxy Lurking on Edge of Milky Way

Milky Way collides with another galaxy

Across the galaxy reaches one third of the milky Way and can be compared with the Large Magellanic cloud. The reason behind Antlia 2 having too little mass is that the galaxy is "being taken apart by the Galactic tides of the Milky Way", astronomers believe.

In March, a separate team of astronomers found the galaxy NGC 1052-DF2 that is missing most of its dark matter that challenges currently-accepted theories of galaxy formation and seeks scientists to re-look at the nature of planet formation as well as the studies on the dark matter.

An worldwide team, including an astronomer from Imperial College London, discovered the massive galaxy when trawling through data from the European Space Agency's Gaia satellite.

As structures emerged in the early Universe, dwarf galaxies were the first galaxies to form, and so most of their stars are old, low-mass and metal-poor.

The source of the "hurricane" is a "stellar stream" called S1, a string of stars that were part of a dwarf galaxy that collided with the Milky Way a long time ago.

The ESA's Gaia mission has delivered the most extravagant star list to date, including high-precision estimations of nearly 1.7 billion stars and uncovering already inconspicuous points of interest of our home world.

Illicit drug use continues to take a toll
Among Island Health authority regions, south Vancouver Island has had 97 deaths for a rate of 33.1 per 100,000 people. The death rate per 100,000 population from illegal drug overdose is up to 31.3 from 30.3 past year .

After the discovery, the lead researcher Pieter van Dokkum of Yale University said, "This invisible, mysterious substance is by far the most dominant aspect of any galaxy".

Dr. Torrealba and co-authors searched the data from the Gaia mission's second data release for Milky Way satellites by using RR Lyrae stars - old and metal-poor, typical of those found in dwarf galaxies.

The team wrote that all stars in the ghost galaxy were moving together and the galaxy always maintained a distance of around 130,000 light years distance from our own galaxy. Past research has proposed that a few smaller people could be swelled by vigorous star arrangement, making the cosmic system "puff up", yet the new research demonstrates that this process would need to be strikingly proficient to clarify Ant 2. The specialists were likewise ready to gauge the world's mass, which was much lower than anticipated for a protest of its size.

What remains unexplained is the object's giant size, says astronomer Sergey Koposov at Carnegie Mellon University.

"Compared to the rest of the 60 or so Milky Way satellites, Ant 2 is an oddball", said co-author Dr Matthew Walker, from Carnegie Mellon University. In addition, now the milky Way absorbs dwarf elliptical galaxy with a diameter of about 10 thousand light years.

The team thinks that the discovery of Antlia 2 could make scientists rethink of the properties of dark matter. This collection of stars is set to cross the path of our Sun, which means we'll be closer enough to pick up on a large, fast-moving bunch of dark matter that's predicted to hang around the S1 stream.
