Babe Ruth, Roger Staubach, Alan Page to receive Presidential Medal of Freedom

The White House on Saturday announced upcoming recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor awarded in the United States, and among the recipients is Miriam Adelson, wife of business magnate and Trump backer Sheldon Adelson.

President Trump has selected Elvis Presley as one of seven recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, to be awarded at a White House ceremony on Friday.

Adelson, the wife of billionaire Republican donor Sheldon Adelson, is cited by the White House for founding research centers committed to fighting substance abuse and, with her husband, establishing the Adelson Medical Research Foundation, which supports research on life-threatening illness. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), baseball great Babe Ruth, the late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, retired National Football League quarterback Roger Staubach and former Minnesota Supreme Court justice and National Football League star Alan Page.

Miriam Adelson, 72, is a doctor who is married to the casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

Babe Ruth retired from baseball in 1935, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936, died in 1948 and still isn't done collecting awards.Seventy years after his death, Ruth is among the latest sports figures to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom - the highest civilian award in the United States.

Hatch announced his retirement from the senate in January 2018 after serving Utah for 41 years, one of the longest-serving members in American history.

Alan C. Page is a former football player and lawyer.

Page played for the Vikings from 1967 to 1978 appearing in four Super Bowls. She has also supported Jewish schools, Holocaust memorial organizations, and Israeli military personnel and veterans, the White House noted. Elvis also served almost 2 years in the United States Army, humbly accepting the call to serve despite his fame. The couple founded the Page Education Foundation 30 years ago. He ultimately won 3 GRAMMY Awards for his gospel music.

'His legacy has never been eclipsed, and he remains the personification of 'America's Pastime, ' the White House added.
