Bryce Harper rejected 10-year, $300M offer from Nats

Phillies’ positional needs centered on but not limited to Bryce Harper and Manny Machado

Free agent Major League Baseball superstar Bryce Harper turned down an offer from his current team, the Washington Nationals, that would have made him one of the highest-paid players in U.S.

Harper will test the market in search of a more lucrative contract this winter along with other notable free agents, such as infielder Manny Machado.

Specifics on the reported offer remain mum, but the Post had the following to say. An aggressive offer here likely tops Giancarlo Stanton's record $325 million contract, so the hunch is the Nats went with something like 10 years and $350 million.

It's not a surprise that the Nationals would try to make sure Harper didn't hit free agency, but this is still pretty interesting.

"We've had conversations and we utilized our exclusivity to negotiate with him late in the season through when he became eligible to sign with a team, " Washington Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo told reporter Tuesday, according to ESPN.

7-Eleven joins cashierless trend with grab-and-go test
The payment feature is integrated within the 7Rewards loyalty program, allowing customers to earn and redeem coupons or rewards. About 50% of the USA population lives within one mile of a 7-Eleven, the company said.

Indeed, the Nationals need starting pitching, a catcher and to upgrade their bench.

Don't dismiss this news as Harper out-and-out rejecting the Nationals.

All signs point to Bryce Harper leaving Washington this offseason. It will cost them roughly $US13 million.

That Nationals offer may be off the table in its current form, but Boras rarely lets a high-spending team drop out of the race for a high-priced client. "But I'm not comfortable with the statement that we're a better team without him". Max Scherzer got exactly $US30 million. But no position player has ever earned an average annual value of more than $27.5 million (Alex Rodriguez and Yoenis Cespedes). It was not enough.
