Canada has heard Turkish recordings on Khashoggi's killing: Trudeau

Although Saudi Arabia sent its senior prosecutor to Turkey last month for what it called a "joint" investigation, the Saudis shared no information and appeared only interested in learning what the Turkish investigators knew, the official said.

People who've heard a recording of Saudi columnist Jamal Khashoggi's murder don't believe it implicates Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said, weighing in on a controversy that has sharply raised worldwide pressure on the top oil exporter.

Turkish intelligence officers have told U.S. officials they believe Mutreb was speaking to one of the prince's aides, it reported.

"That's not the conclusion that I think the people who heard it have come to", Bolton reportedly said during a Singapore news conference.

"We categorically deny the reporting referencing the crown prince in this matter or that he had any knowledge whatsoever of it", a Saudi official told the Journal on Tuesday.

But Turkish officials say they played them the recordings but did not hand them over.

Canadian intelligence officers have listened to Turkish recordings of what happened to Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday, adding that he was discussing with allies what next steps should be taken. Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, one of 15 Saudis dispatched to Istanbul to confront Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate there, is reported to have made the phone call and spoke in Arabic to relay the message to "the boss" that the operation to kill Jamal was successful.

'The recordings are really appalling. "When the Saudi intelligence officer listened to the recordings, he was so shocked he said: 'This one must have taken heroin".

White House aide’s job in jeopardy after Melania Trump issues scathing statement
On Tuesday , first lady Melania Trump publicly called for the ouster of a senior member of her husband's administration. He reportedly told Kelly to give the first lady whatever she wanted, adding: 'I don't need this shit'.

Under mounting pressure, Saudi Arabia has changed its narrative about Khashoggi's killing. "Only someone who took heroin would do it, '" President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, according to pro-government newspaper Yeni Safak.

"It's obvious that this murder was premeditated and that the order came from above", it cited Erdogan as saying on his way back from Paris where he met President Donald Trump.

"It should be uncovered who gave the order to kill".

The 33-year-old crown prince is on course to become the first Saudi monarch from a new generation in 65 years, but his rise has upended the system of rule in place for decades in which successive kings sought family consensus and allocated powerful posts to their brothers and nephews.

More recently, a government source said Qahtani featured prominently in the recordings.

Officials in multiple countries have said they don't think the journalist could have been killed without the knowledge of the prince, the Trump Administration's key ally in the Arab world.

Turkey's Erdogan said Saturday that his country had shared the recordings with Saudi Arabia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, although confusion has swirled over which countries have and haven't listened to the recordings.

Erdogan has not given details of the contents of the tapes but two sources with knowledge of the issue have told Reuters that Turkey has several audio recordings. Media reports have suggested that his body could have been chemically dissolved as it has not yet been found.
