DUBAI police could soon be swooping in on crims from the sky.
Manufactured by a Russian-led, California-based company called Hoversurf, the bikes are now being used in Dubai for training purposes to accustom police officers with their operation.
Police in Dubai have begun training on hoverbikes in the hope that they can help first responder units reach areas that would otherwise be hard to reach.
It marks another extravagant addition to the country's police force, which already has a Ferrari and Lamborghini among its crime-fighting cars. While it does sounds like something right out of a science-fiction blockbuster, Dubai confirmed earlier this month that their police force has begun training on hovering motorbikes. The police force has now received delivery of the first production unit of the S3 2019 Hoverbike.
Legit.ng gathers that the hoverbikes will be in action by 2020 with two crews already learning how to pilot them.
Built with a carbon fiber body, the S3 uses 12.3 kWh batteries to power the four propellers located two at the front and two at the rear for up to 40 minutes in drone mode and 25 minutes with a pilot riding it.
Meant to operate at shopping centres and tourist attractions, the REEM robot can settle fines, send video to a police operating centre, forward crime reports, and even speak nine languages. With a price tag of $150,000 each, hoverbikes don't require a pilot's license to fly.
