Lion Air Crash: Boeing Sued by Victim's Family

Indonesian navy divers look at the wheels of the ill-fated Lion Air flight JT 610 which were recovered from the sea north of Karawang on Nov 2 2018

Irianto claims a new flight-control system incorporated in the Boeing 737 MAX 8 airliner caused the crash.

On Wednesday, a top Lion Air official joined a United States pilots' group in alleging the company failed to warn pilots about the potential hazards of the new safety feature implicated in the crash.

Investigators of the Lion Air Flight 610 previously confirmed that the airspeed indicator of the plane had malfunctioned during its last four flights.

United States pilots' unions and Lion Air executives have now said the Boeing guidance was omitted from training manuals, and they had not been warned before of a significant change to the flight control system in this model, which could have led to onboard computers forcing the nose of a 737 Max plane down. The official said that the manual did not intimate the pilots that the plane's stall-prevention system could automatically trigger a response in emergency situations, including the lowering of the aircraft's nose.

Lion Air Flight 610 crashed into the Java Sea shortly after take-off from Jakarta on October 29, killing all 189 people on board. Three U.S. pilots' unions have raised concern about what they say is a lack of information provided by Boeing on the safety system.

Boeing declined to comment beyond statements issued regarding the memo.

The issue was discovered through the investigation into the Lion Air crash.

Joe Schmidt expecting 'spiky' contest between Ireland and New Zealand
Kieran Marmion has retained his spot at scrum-half with the Lions talisman Conor Murray still sidelined through neck trouble. So, there's some disappointed players but they will be 100% behind the team that was selected.

"They (Boeing) didn't provide us all the info we rely on when we fly an aircraft", Capt. Dennis Tajer, a spokesman for the APA group, told CNN on Tuesday.

Zwingli added that Boeing's safety bulletin did not suggest additional training for pilots operating that aircraft.

"We didn't receive any information from Boeing or from regulator about that additional training for our pilots", he told CNN.

He added, "We are confident in the safety of the 737 MAX". Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee said a sensor had been changed by mechanics in Bali the day before the crash, following similar problems on previous flights.

Dr. Pratama, of Indonesia, was flying home from a conference when the plane crashed.

"On November 6, 2018, Boeing issued an Operations Manual Bulletin (OMB) directing operators to existing flight crew procedures to address circumstances where there is erroneous input from an [angle of attack] sensor", a spokesperson for the company said.
