Man, 20, charged with the murder of Gary 'Angry' Anderson's son

Angry Anderson

Mathew Flame, 20, did not apply for bail and it was formally refused when he faced Manly Local Court on Monday, a day after Liam Anderson, 26, was killed in Queenscliff.

Detective Inspector Michael Boutouridis told reporters the attack on Anderson was targeted and the men were known to one another.

Gary "Angry" Anderson is the lead singer of rock band Rose Tattoo and has three sons and a daughter.

Mr Anderson died shortly after as a result of his injuries.

"With the matter in the hands of NSW Police the family will not be making any comment at this stage, nor are we as Anderson's management in a position to offer any any comment on their behalf".

Neighbours have told 9NEWS they heard sounds of moaning coming from Pavilion Reserve just after 5.30am.

Flame was arrested and handcuffed as police arrived on the scene, and later pepper sprayed when he stood up to watch officers attempt to save the life of his best friend who died at the scene.

The alleged attacker was arrested at the scene after being restrained by several officers and taken to Manly Police Station for questioning.

On Sunday, friends gathered in the park to lay flowers.

Police say the alleged attacker's arrest was hard, with officers using capsicum spray and "significant force" to arrest him.

Michigan, Missouri, Utah voters opt to loosen marijuana laws
In Missouri, voters will be asked to chose between three separate proposals legalizing medical marijuana to varying degrees. Voters in Utah and Missouri will consider whether to approve the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes.

The accused was reportedly in a state of shock when realising what had happened, with Sydney Morning Herald reporting that Mr Flame only became aware of the incident when awakening from an alleged psychotic episode in hospital.

Angry Anderson awoke to the news of Liam's death while on tour in Perth, and flew home to Sydney on Sunday night.

Police say Flame made full admissions to the attack and participated in forensic procedures.

"I won't suggest there were drugs in the victim, but there certainly was in the offender".

"The assault was brutal - it was quite a bloody scene", Det Insp Boutouridis said.

One song he performed stated: "These cops pull me over cause I'm suspect, but a criminal ain't the image I'm trying to project".

"I just heard a lot of, say for at least half an hour, moaning", the woman told Sydney's Channel Seven.

Violence and drug culture is not unique to Australia. "We should have looked out but we didn't", she added.

Emergency services were called to the park on the corner of Pavilion Street and Bridge Road about 6am on Sunday, following reports of an assault.

"I don't know the circumstances leading to them being at the reserve this morning".
