'Multiple injuries' in California bar shooting: fire department

An unnamed witness told the newspaper that someone ran into the bar around 11.30pm (local time) and started shooting what looked to be a black pistol.

Multiple people have been injured in a suspected mass shooting at a California bar.

Multiple people have been shot after a gunman opened fire in a bar in Thousand Oaks, California.

Thousand Oaks a wealthy city in Ventura County and is one of the safest cities in the U.S. based on Federal Bureau of Investigation data.

The extent of the victim's injuries has not yet been released.

Several witnesses told ABC 7 the man was armed with a handgun opened fire inside the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks.

The Los Angeles Times reports an event for college students was due to be held at the venue tonight.

One witness said there were multiple shots fired inside the bar.

People say he threw "smoke grenades all over the place".

The gunman was still believed to be inside the bar an hour later, according to a police official.

Officers later reported a man matching the suspect's description on the ground at the scene outside a window.

He told reporters: "When our deputies arrive on the scene they attempted to neutralise that threat, I can't tell you if it was neutralised or not".
