Silver Slugger winners announced for 2018 Major League Baseball season

Boston Red Sox slugger J.D. Martinez became the first player to win two Silver Slugger awards in the same season

As a result, Martinez made Silver Slugger history by winning the award at two separate positions. The second baseman earned it by hitting.290 with 34 homers and 111 RBI, which led the National League in the 2018 season.

With Silver Sluggers in 2018 and 2016, Betts is now the seventh Red Sox player to win the award in multiple years, joining David Ortiz (7), Wade Boggs (6), Manny Ramirez (6), Xander Bogaerts (2), Dwight Evans (2), and Jim Rice (2). (Note that the outfield is not broken down by left, center, and right designations.) Louisville Slugger is, naturally, the sponsor to the award. This marked his second career Silver Slugger award. At least he is cleaning up elsewhere, winning the Hank Aaron Award last month as the AL's best offensive performer.

Flybe flight plummeted 500ft in seconds after 'autopilot error'

While the cold was starting to set in across Houston, Jose Altuve won his fifth-consecutive Silver Slugger on Thursday night. He became the first White Sox to hit 20 or more home runs in each of his first five seasons and joined Albert Pujols (2001-10) and Ted Williams (1939-42, '46-49) as the only players in major-league history to record 30-plus doubles and 20-plus home runs in each of his first five seasons. The veteran slugger clubbed 43 home runs - a new franchise record for player's first year in Boston - while posting a.330 average and a league-leading 130 RBIs. The 34-year-old outfielder was a first-time All-Star for the Atlanta Braves in 2018, and now he's a first-time Silver Slugger victor, as well.
