Trump Elevates Coal Lobbyist To Lead EPA

Trump says will make acting EPA head Wheeler permanent

"If President Trump follows through on his statement today and nominates Acting Administrator Wheeler to serve in a permanent capacity, the Senate will finally have the opportunity to perform our constitutional duties to advise and consent on who gets to lead the EPA-an agency tasked with protecting human health and the environment".

Wheeler, a long-time Washington insider known to shun the spotlight, took the reins at the EPA in July after former Administrator Scott Pruitt resigned.

Trump made the remarks Friday at a medal of honor ceremony at the White House where he introduced Wheeler by saying he is going to be made permanent.

"He's done a fantastic job and I want to congratulate him", Trump said. Environmental groups quickly voiced their opposition.

Wheeler has had a relatively quiet year since taking over at EPA compared to the controversial tenure of his predecessor, but has continued to pursue the administration's agenda of reducing environmental regulations that he says were too burdensome on businesses under the Obama administration.

Sports activities Replace: Wilder: Freddie Roach recruitment an indication of Fury nerves
Wilder, (40-0 with 39 knockouts), instead believes that he and Fury, along with Cuba's Luis Ortiz , are superior to Joshua. Wilder, meanwhile, was unimpressed by Fury's recent decision to add veteran U.S. trainer Freddie Roach into his corner.

Wheeler stands a strong chance of winning Senate confirmation, though his nomination is still likely to spur a serious debate.

According to Reuters, Wheeler worked at the EPA in the 1990s, and was later a staffer for Senator Jim Inhofe (R-OK), an outspoken climate change denier.

Since becoming acting EPA head, Wheeler has advanced proposals that would ease emissions limits for power plants, for cars and for oil and gas facilities, rejecting earlier EPA findings that some of the moves would lead to increased deaths from pollutants. He was referring to William Ruckelshaus, who was appointed by Richard Nixon to head the EPA in 1970 and Christine Todd Whitman, who was appointed to the post in 2001 by George W Bush.

It was not clear if Wheeler had been informed beforehand of Trump's intentions; EPA spokespeople did not respond to requests for comment. He won approval for his current job in April on a 53-to-45 vote, with three Democrats supporting his nomination. Environmental groups condemned the announcement.
