Black Fern Phillipa Love scores against Australia in Auckland on August 25

The 2021 Women's Rugby World Cup will be held in New Zealand with the final due at Eden Park, which will be the biggest venue to stage a women's final.

Palmer, a former Black Fern and current New Zealand Rugby board member is one of the key presenters of the New Zealand bid and concedes she's feeling tense ahead of the meeting.

The New Zealand Government strongly supported the bid, with backing from MBIE, Auckland Tourism Events and Economic Development (ATEED) and Whangarei District Council.

It was the best-attended Women's Rugby World Cup to date with a record total attendance of 45,412, the most viewed with Ireland, France, the United Kingdom and US all recording unprecedented viewing figures, and also the most socially engaged, generating 45 million views across official tournament platforms.

"Although we are very passionate about women's rugby very few of our fans have seen the Black Ferns play at home against the best in the world".

The Black Ferns, five-time world champions and now preparing to face France in Grenoble, will finally get the chance to play in a home World Cup, the ninth pinnacle women's event in history. "We know we're going to a country that delivers major events well. the 2011 Rugby World Cup, a British and Irish Lions tour a year ago... these guys know how to do it".

NZ Rugby CEO Steve Tew was there as well, and was also ecstatic at the result.

"I know there will be thousands of supporters excited to go back to New Zealand".

New Zealand will now chase their sixth title, and will get to do so in front of their home fans for the first time.

"It was an incredible bid and I think what it's shown us is that there is such an enormous passion for women's rugby in Australia", she said.

Auckland and Whangarei will host matches at Albany Stadium, Waitakere Stadium and Northland Events Centre, with Eden Park available for the semi's and final.

Since then, with the exception of 2006, when it was staged in Canada, the tournament has always taken place in Europe.

"We congratulate New Zealand Rugby on its successful bid, and we are sure they will deliver a fantastic tournament in what will be the first Women's World Cup played in the Southern Hemisphere". So we had a very strong bid.

"Even though World Rugby made a recommendation for the men's World Cup last time and it wasn't followed, I still think it would be a good process for World Rugby to make a recommendation based on that analysis", Castle said.
