Free agent Patrick Corbin agrees to deal with Washington Nationals

Patrick Corbin Arizona Diamondbacks

The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly talked to the New York Yankees regarding a deal for pitcher Sonny Gray, according to MLB.com's Jon Morosi. It's possible that an outside team could enter the fray, but one of those clubs will likely land the best pitcher on the market in the coming days.

Philadelphia might be willing to give Corbin his biggest offer since the team is seemingly ready to outspend everyone this winter.

Because the contract is for more than $50 million, Arizona will get a compensation draft pick after the first round and before Competitive Balance Round A because it is a revenue-sharing team. According to Tim Dierkes, Corbin is expected to receive a six-year, $129.00 million contract, which is surprisingly a reasonable based on his performance last season.

Corbin was named an All-Star last season as a member of the Diamondbacks.

Gautam Gambhir announces retirement from all cricket
They're the most successful opening partners for India, having added 4412 runs together from 87 Tests at an average of 52.52. He also looked back fondly on being part of the No.1 Test team, and winning the triangular CB series in Australia in 2008.

Per SNY's Andy Martino, the Phillies "are in a strong position" to complete the swoop for Corbin, which could mean they are exceeding that $125 million mark by plenty. Going by those now well-recited comments, fans could expect the Phillies could keep pursuing Corbin as well as free agents like Bryce Harper and Manny Machado, in addition to possibly more players.

I could understand why the Yanks would be hesitant to add in that extra year and if that leads to Corbin signing elsewhere than so be it.

Throughout the 2018 regular season, Corbin put together an 11-7 win-loss record through 200.0 innings pitched in 33 starts. He compiled a 3.15 ERA, a 2.47 FIP, and a 1.050 WHIP.

Comparatively, National League Cy Young award victor Jacob deGrom and Trevor Bauer were the only two players to rank above Corbin in the FIP category. deGrom had a phenomenal 1.99 FIP and Bauer had a solid 2.44 FIP. The left-handed pitcher has an ERA of 3.91 during his six years in the Major League Baseball, all of which he has spent with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
