Prince William and Kate bring gifts to RAF base in Cyprus

William also spoke with a group of pilots and was overheard saying, "I told George this morning we were going to see the pilots today, and he said, 'If you see a helicopter, can you take a picture?'"

At the event, William gave a rousing speech to the troops, saying, "We know this isn't easy for you or your wives, husbands, children and friends back in the United Kingdom but on behalf of everyone at home, we'd like to say a big thank you".

He said: "He saw I had some in my hand and he had a little mischievous nod and wink and looked like he wanted one to throw back at us".

Talking about spending time away from her family at Christmas, she said: "It's emotional, I think it's easier for us out here because we just muck in together. Whereas for the families at home, there's that empty chair around the table at Christmas Day where we're normally sat".

By making the short visit to RAF Akrotiri, the couple hope to highlight the contribution and sacrifices personnel and their families make throughout the year but especially when they are separated at Christmas. According to HOLA! USA's sister brand HELLO!'s royal reporter Emily Nash, "Kate told one well-wisher how Prince Louis is learning to wave" - big sister Princess Charlotte, three, is already a pro!
