Senate Gears Up for Unpredictable Debate on Saudi Arabia and Yemen

Khashoggi

Since then, the US-backed Saudi-UAE alliance has launched more than 18,000 air raids, part of a war which has killed tens of thousands of civilians.

"There's not a smoking gun, there's a smoking saw", Graham told reporters, apparently referring to the bone saw that the Khashoggi assassins brought along when they entrapped, killed, and dismembered him in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. "His status as such remains unchanged", the official said.

His return to the USA sparked strong criticism on Wednesday, however. The latter is a hushed, but vicious issue making its way through congress. Thanks to some post-9/11 politics, the president can start a war whenever he wants without anyone's approval (despite the constitution stating that congress has war powers), but Graham and 12 other Republicans are actually advancing a bill that threatens that legislation for the first time ever.

Khalid has also been accused of playing a role in the murder of Khashoggi.

While the Trump administration has repeatedly distinguished Khashoggi's murder and the war in Yemen as separate issues, lawmakers are tying both together as a showcase of how blank-check support for Saudi Arabia erodes US moral standing.

The CIA has evidence that the crown prince exchanged 11 messages with Qahtani, who allegedly oversaw the murder, just before and after it took place, according to USA media, including The Wall Street Journal.

But senator after senator leaving the Central Intelligence Agency briefing said there's no doubt that bin Salman was involved, adding that the United States can not ignore the matter.

Could the oil Industry in India See Higher Profits?
One of the issues for Indian oil companies is their requirement to sell below market to subsidize prices in their home country. The US pulled out of the agreement earlier this year as President Trump claimed he was looking for a better deal.

Prince Khalid has denied what he called a "serious accusation". The right choice - the American choice, I would say - is for the people to make that decision. "I ask the USA government to release any information regarding this claim". Graham said Tuesday the difference between the Haspel briefing and the one last week was "like darkness and sunshine" in terms of shedding light on MBS's involvement in Khashoggi's killing.

Haspel's briefing was limited to the chairs and ranking members of the Foreign Relations, Armed Services, and Intelligence committees, as well as the Appropriation subcommittee, and majority and minority leaders.

Bob Corker said he had "zero question in my mind" it was Prince Salman, and Lindsey Graham said the "crazy" crown prince was "complicit" to the "highest level possible".

Corker is confident that the crown prince is culpable in the murder.

Istanbul's chief prosecutor is seeking arrest warrants for two former aides to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman over the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said Tuesday that senators are trying to figure out how to amend the resolution, which directs the president to remove most USA armed forces from hostilities affecting Yemen.

"It is a zero chance, zero, that this happened in such an organized fashion without the crown prince", Graham told The Washington Post.
