That awkward moment between the Obamas and Trumps at the Bush funeral

‘Do you think anyone will come?’ President George H.W. Bush asked that question while planning his funeral

As the 72-year-old Bush arrived at the National Cathedral for the state funeral for his father - the 41st USA president - he shook hands with President Donald Trump and his wife, Melania.

Bush then continued down the row, shaking hands with former president Bill Clinton, former First Lady Hillary Clinton, former president Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn. The service will be attended by multiple former presidents and first ladies, children of past presidents and world leaders.

"He showed me what it means to be a president who serves with integrity, leads with courage and acts with love in his heart for the citizens of our country", he said.

People have waited hours in line to pay their respects to George H.W. Bush as he lies in state.

Towards the end of his eulogy, Bush became visibly emotional. "So through our tears, let us know the blessings of knowing and loving you, a great and noble man".

George H.W. and Barbara Bush's daughter, Robin, died of cancer in 1953.

Immediately following the funeral service in Washington, D.C. the casket of the former president received a 21-gun salute before boarding a U.S. Air Force 747-called "Special Mission 41" in honor of the 41st president. "This photo, taken Monday, is courtesy the Senate Press Photographers" Gallery pool", tweeted Bush spokesman Jim McGrath, who included a picture of the crowd surrounding Bush's casket as he lay in state at the Capitol Rotunda.
