Amir Khan finalises deal to challenge Terence Crawford for WBO world title

Khan beat Samuel Vargas on points in September but was knocked down in the bout

Amir Khan has signed a deal to fight WBO world champion Terence Crawford on April 20 at the iconic Madison Square Garden in NY, with the official announcement due to take place on January 15.

Terence Crawford will be a heavy favourite when he faces Amir Khan later this year, in the latest defence of his WBO welterweight title.

ESPN cited a media advisory from Crawford's promoter, Top Rank, which stated that Crawford and Khan will make a "long-awaited announcement" in London on Tuesday.

A news conference is due to take place early next week that will provide more information regards the venue, which has been tipped to hold in either NY or Las Vegas, with the bout slated for April 20th.

Another major reason the fight has been met with such a negative reaction as that it's expected to be on PPV.

Crawford (34-0, 25 KOs), 31, a three-division world champion from Omaha, Nebraska, moved up to welterweight and knocked out Jeff Horn in the ninth round of a one-sided fight to win a title in on June 9.

"King" Khan will net £4m for the World title fight but reportedly could have earned more against domestic rival Kell Brook.
