The Chicago Bears have hired Chuck Pagano as their new defensive coordinator.

He was the Colts' head coach for the previous six years (2012-17), when they compiled a 53-43 regular-season record and a 3-3 mark in the playoffs.

It was never going to be easy to replace Vic Fangio, but Matt Nagy made a Friday night splash with his most significant hire as head coach. "He is a man of high character and has a passion for the game that will no doubt add to the culture we have already started building at Halas Hall".

The 58-year-old Pagano will walk into as ideal a situation as one can find as a defensive coordinator, tasked with figuring out what to do with a treasure trove of defensive playmakers. He led the Colts to three straight playoff appearances from 2012-14, including AFC South Division titles in 2013 and 2014, and an appearance in the 2014 AFC championship game.

Repeated radio signals from deep space thrust advanced alien life theories
While interesting, these new observations, he said, can not tell us about the nature of these sources-at least not yet. That repeating FRB seemed to have originated from a galaxy located about 2.5 billion light-years from Earth.

A 16-year NFL coaching veteran, Pagano takes over arguably the league's best defense.

The Colts fired him after a 4-12 finish in 2017, and he did not coach this season.

The team also reportedly interviewed defensive backs coach Ed Donatell on Thursday, and this move may free him up to join Fangio in Denver. The secondary coach of John Harbaugh's initial staff with the Ravens, Pagano was promoted to coordinator in 2011 and led a defense that ranked third in both points and yards allowed.
