Israel struck Iranian facility in Syria, PM Netanyahu says

IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkott speaks at a conference at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya

Israel is prepared to take further action against Iranian targets in Syria to prevent Iran's gaining a military stronghold in that country, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday.

'The accumulation of recent attacks shows that we're more determined than ever to act against Iran in Syria, just as we promised'.

"We have operated with impressive success in thwarting Iran from establishing a military foothold in Syria, in the framework of which the military has struck hundreds of times against Iranian and Hezbollah targets", Netanyahu said.

"In just the last 36 hours, the air force struck Iran's warehouses, containing Iranian arms, in Damascus global airport", he added, referring to a Friday night sortie that Syria said it had answered with anti-aircraft fire.

"If necessary, we will step up these attacks". "We are thus approaching the completion of the goal we set at the outset of Operation Northern Shield - the eradication of Hezbollah's tunnels weapon", he said. He will be replaced on Tuesday by Maj. In 2018 alone, Israel dropped around 2,000 bombs on alleged Iran-linked targets, Gadi Eisenkot told the New York Times in his final interview as chief of staff of the IDF before he retires next week.

A sixth tunnel was found on Saturday, which infiltrated a few dozen metres into Israeli territory.

One of the issues for Indian oil companies is their requirement to sell below market to subsidize prices in their home country. The US pulled out of the agreement earlier this year as President Trump claimed he was looking for a better deal.

"We have now exposed all attack tunnels dug by Hezbollah from Lebanon into Israel", the Israel Defense Forces tweeted on Sunday.

"According to our intelligence and our assessment of the situation there are no longer any cross-border attack tunnels from Lebanon into Israel". He added that Hezbollah retained underground facilities on the Lebanese side.

It is believed the tunnels were allowing militants to sneak across the border and carry out attacks. Israel reported the tunnel's discovery to UNIFIL, the United Nations observer force responsible for ensuring that southern Lebanon remains free of hostile forces.

Israel has called on the worldwide community to impose tough sanctions on Hezbollah and act against the state within a state operation in Lebanon.

The powerful Shiite Hezbollah group, which acts independently in Lebanon, has yet to comment on the tunnels.

In recent years, Hezbollah has been bogged down in fighting in Syria on behalf of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government.
