Kate Middleton's brother James Middleton reveals secret battle with depression

James Middleton

And if Pippa the Western press is regularly full of headlines and discoveries, the existence of James, many didn't even know existed until that day.

He then references the effect his sister Kate's royal position has had, saying: "Secondly - and perhaps most importantly - I feel compelled to talk about it openly because this is precisely what my brother-in-law Prince William, my sister Catherine and Prince Harry are advocating through their mental health charity Heads Together". "It is an illness, a cancer of the mind", he explained. "The answer is, I believe I would". "I barely functioned, stopped talking to my friends, went through the motions of living and working but achieved nothing at all", he described.

Middleton, who now works as a tour guide at the Glen Affric Lodge near Loch Ness, a hotel owned by Pippa Middleton's father-in-law David Matthews, goes on to describe how, in the midst of his depression, he up ended his life, packed up his dogs and withdrew to the English Lake District where Middleton realised he needed help and "confronted" his illness.

Although James was inspired to share his journey because of his family, he didn't immediately share his battles with them.

He added that it was actually Kate's mental health campaign that had convinced him to come forward about his experiences. He added: "It was impossible to let my loved ones know about the torture in my mind".

James says he sees his "ADD as a gift: it accounts for my creativity and emotional intensity".

"You may wonder why I have chosen to speak now about the clinical depression that first hit me at the end of 2016".
