Kyler Murray Wants $15 Million To Play For The Oakland A’s

A's outfield depth can withstand potential loss of Kyler Murray to NFL

According to a report from MLB.com, the league sent marketing executives to a meeting between the A's and Murray on Sunday. The NFL Draft is set to take place April 25-27 in Nashville, Tenn.

Should Murray go the National Football League route rather than pursuing his career as an outfielder in the Athletics organization, the A's would get his signing bonus back, but they wouldn't receive a compensatory selection in the 2019 MLB Draft. The A's reportedly are expecting Murray to enter the draft, hence the meeting. According to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the team will meet with Murray today to try and convince him to choose baseball.

Each year, Major League Baseball notifies teams of their draft bonus pools and global spending allotment.

Oklahoma Backup QB Austin Kendall Enters NCAA Transfer Portal
Austin Kendall surprised many in Norman when his name was reportedly spotted in the NCAA transfer portal on Friday afternoon. Kendall graduated last month, meaning he can transfer and play immediately with two seasons of eligibility.

If Murray declares for the NFL draft in 2019 or 2020 and is a first-round pick he would be the first player to be a first-round pick in both the NFL and MLB drafts. The A's are in a tough spot with the possibility of losing Murray entirely. Instead, he was the most dynamic player in college football.

Oakland would have to add Murray to its 40-man roster if he signed a major-league contract. In Murray's case, because he signed a minor league deal, and because his performance at Oklahoma changed the circumstances of his baseball career, Oakland would be within the rules to give Murray a long-term extension if that's what it takes to keep him in baseball, sources tell ESPN. The Athletics would still retain his baseball rights if he chose to return to baseball. He'd signed with the Oakland A's as their first-round pick in June's baseball draft (ninth overall), agreeing to a $4.66 million bonus that came with the stipulation that the A's would not stand in the way of him playing football in 2018.
