Mass overdose in California leaves 1 dead, 12 hospitalized

1 dead, 4 in critical condition at mass overdose in California house

According to local reports, an unnamed man died while another 12 were rushed to hospital, with four of them in a critical condition.

The victims were between the ages of 19 and at least 30, he said.

One person is dead and 12 others hospitalized after suspected fentanyl overdoses in California that sickened two responding police officers, authorities said.

Chico Fire Department Division Chief Jesse Alexander told the station it was the largest mass casualty incident he had seen in years.

O'Brien said that officers performed CPR and administered six doses of naloxone, which can reverse the effects of an overdose and comes in half-doses.

Mike O'Brien, a police captain in Chico, California, said: "Certainly there's potential for additional fatalities".

"These substances are extraordinarily risky, and it takes a very minute amount to cause lifesaving conditions", O'Brien said.

Two officers were also transported to the hospital after being exposed to the drug. Chico police have been equipped with naloxone since 2018.

Ocasio-Cortez sparks debate with talk of 70 percent marginal rate
Yet, according to Walsh, the one that looks bad in the article is the Dems taking swipes at Ocasio-Cortez. Walsh added, "There are several ways she moderated her stance toward other Democrats".

It's not clear what drug the fentanyl might have been paired with, he said, but his officers have only come across it when it was combined with heroin.

The home is being treated as a hazardous materials site, and the investigation is ongoing, O'Brien said.

"We do respond to many, many overdoses", O'Brien said.

Chico Police Chief Michael O'Brien said at a press conference that police received a 911 call from someone inside the residence of a home in the 1100 block of Santana Court about 9 a.m. "That is changing unfortunately. and now we've have this MCI (mass casualty incident)...that concerns us all".

Over the past few years, Fentanyl has increasingly been responsible for overdose deaths across the United States.

The shipment of fentanyl from China to the U.S.is "almost a form of warfare", Trump said in August.

Fentanyl is "50 to 100 times more potent than morphine", according to the Centers for Disease Control.
