Mobile is taking on phone scammers with new Caller Verified technology

T mobile logo is seen on an android mobile phone

On Thursday, T-Mobile said it's launching a feature called Caller Verified.

Few things are as irritating as spam calls, and today, T-Mobile announced that it's taking a couple steps forward in helping make sure you have to deal with them as infrequently as possible. Customers that have been updated with the carrier's new technology will now see a "Caller Verified" label when a voice message has been confirmed as a real phone call and not one generated by scammers.

Caller Verified is now available on the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 9 at no extra charge.

It's not just you, spam calls have become way more prevalent in recent years.

The STIR and SHAKEN standards allow calls to be signed as legitimate by originating carriers and validated by other operators before the calls reach consumers. STIR and SHAKEN digitally validate the handoff of calls so that the consumer knows that an incoming call is really from the person supposedly making it.

According the TransNexus firm, STIR (Secure Telephony Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Secure Handling of Asserted information using toKENs) use "digital certificates, based on common public key cryptography techniques, to ensure the calling number of a telephone call is secure".

T-Mobile promises interoperability, saying "Once other wireless providers implement STIR/SHAKEN, Caller Verified will work on calls made across networks".

To say that spam calls are annoying would not only be redundant, but it'd also be a big understatement.
