Pucovski gets shock Australia call-up as Marsh brothers dumped

Kusal Perera hasn't played a Test since the series against the Windies in June last year

"There is no doubt the India series produced some disappointing results and we have now reviewed the squad ahead of the series against Sri Lanka", chief selector Trevor Hohns said.

Shaun Marsh, Mitch Marsh, Peter Handscomb and Aaron Finch have all been axed after struggling in the four-Test series against India. The tour match begins next Thursday, and like the first Test at the Gabba is a day-night fixture to be played with the pink ball.

Australia squad: Marcus Harris, Joe Burns, Matthew Renshaw, Usman Khawaja, Travis Head, Will Pucovksi, Marnus Labuschagne, Tim Paine (captain), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood, Peter Siddle.

The bowlers are unchanged from the four-Test series.

Former Australia all-rounder and now a coach and commentator Tom Moody supported the decision to pick Pucovski saying his selection was not a surprise to him even as many found it so. Tremaine, who also plays for Victoria, is yet to play in Tests and took part in four ODI matches since his debut in 2016, which was also the previous year when he played for the Baggy Greens.

Pucovski, 20, made heads turn during his knock of 243 against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield in October a year ago - his second First-Class hundred, but took a six-week break from cricket following mental health conditions.

"Will Pucovski is an exciting young player who is making his mark in the Sheffield Shield", Hohns added.

The Kangaroos instead brought in 20-year-old Will Pucovski who has played just eight first-class games since making his debut in February 2017.

"It is every kid's dream".

Sri Lanka will also play a day-night pink ball tour match in Hobart beginning January 17.

Following a third recall to the Test arena, Renshaw understands the lay of the land and isn't over-complicating things despite the prospect of a bat-off in next week's CA XI tour game against Sri Lanka to secure his return.

"Matt Renshaw is a player with the ability to make big scores and at 22 years old has 10 first-class centuries".

The bulk of Australia's Test squad will either rest or take part in a three- match ODI series against India before assembling in Brisbane.

"I'm feeling really good, as good as I have felt in a really long time", Pucovski said.
