Republicans slam Rep. Steve King for what they call racist remarks

White Supremacist Rep. Steve King Wonders Why Being White Supremacist Is Offensive

After Rep. Steve King (R-IA) was quoted downplaying the severity of the terms "white nationalist" and "white supremacist," he claimed to denounce those ideologies in an interview with NBC's Kasie Hunt.

King has sparked several controversies for using white supremacist language, including sponsoring a white nationalist fringe candidate for Toronto mayor. 'Why did I sit in classes teaching me about the merits of our history and our civilization?'

And the number three House Republican leader, GOP Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney, blasted King's remarks, tweeting about the Times interview, "These comments are abhorrent and racist and should have no place in our national discourse".

"This is an embrace of racism, and it has no place in Congress or anywhere", Representative Justin Amash, the Republican from MI, tweeted.

Iowa Congressman Steve King is once again seeking to distance himself from his own words as fellow Republicans in Congress accuse of him of making more racist comments. But already, one Republican Congressman is making life hard.

"Further, I condemn anyone that supports this evil and bigoted ideology which saw in its ultimate expression the systematic murder of six million innocent Jewish lives".

Padraig Harrington unveiled as European Ryder Cup captain for 2020
Bjorn and previous captains Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley are on the panel that will decide who will lead Europe to America. How am I going to feel about that?' I think it's fair to describe the appointment of Harrington as a no-brainer.

Following the report's publishing, King argued in a statement posted on his Twitter account that he is "simply a Nationalist".

Last year, King tweeted, "We can't restore our civilization with somebody else's babies", later telling CNN's Chris Cuomo that he "meant exactly what I said". "I'll just say I have responded to this and I think you understand where I stand".

Law&Crime contacted King's office for comment on this, but they have not responded.

The conservative lawmaker later put out a statement denying what he said were suggestions in the Times article that he was "an advocate for white nationalism and white supremacy".

King won a 9th term in Congress in November in his closest election yet.

He's already in line to face a primary challenger in 2020.
