Royal Caribbean cruise passengers sick with norovirus, trip ending early

Cruise Ship Returns To Port Day Early After 277 People Were Exposed To Norovirus, Forced To Stay On Boat

More than 150 people on Royal Caribbean Cruises' enormous Oasis of the Seas ship were reported ill earlier this week with symptoms of gastrointestinal illness.

The huge cruise ship changed course Thursday to its home port at Port Canaveral when 277 passengers were found to have contracted the virus.

He says the ship will return to Port Canaveral on Saturday.

Passenger Shawn Popeleski told The Orlando Sentinel that the ship's crew informed them that roughly 475 people have now been affected by the outbreak. The vessel will miss a scheduled stop at Cozumel, Mexico, to get its passengers home early, USA Today reported.

Cody Haddap, a cruise passenger, spoke to CNN affiliate WESH on Wednesday and said he became sick after the ship left Haiti on Tuesday. The company is waiting for test results to confirm the illness.

The virus causes vomiting, diarrhea and stomach pain. Getting "tiny particles of poop and vomit" in your mouth can spread the illness, the health agency warned.

Model with Down's syndrome is Benefit Cosmetics' latest brand ambassador
The beauty brand chose her after an image of Ms Grant wearing their eyeliner received a lot of love on their Instagram page. Benefit's Instagram announcement racked up nearly 5,000 likes, with followers living for the post.

Erica Sattler, a 22-year-old passenger from NY who is celebrating her mom's birthday on the ship, said she and her family support the cruise line's decision to cut the trip short.

Torres says returning a day early gives the cruise line "more time to completely clean and sanitize the ship" before it sails again.

Disgruntled passengers tweeted about being required to stay onboard the ship amid the outbreak after docking in Falmouth, Jamaica, the AP reported.

More than 270 passengers on board Royal Caribbean's Oasis Of The Seas have been hit with a highly contagious bout of norovirus since Sunday.

The $1.5 billion, award-winning Oasis of the Seas weighs 226,000 tons, is 1,184 feet long and can carry a maximum of 8,880 people, as per the ship's official web page.
