Sophie Turner hits out at Piers Morgan’s tweet on mental health

Sophie Turner's Twitter feed has plenty of Game of Thrones and X-Men retweets, plus a whole lot of A+ interaction with her co-star Maisie Williams.

The spat began this morning, January 9th, when Morgan retweeted an article in which English actress Beverley Callard cautioned against celebrities trying to make mental health struggles seem "fashionable". He wrote: "She'll get hammered for saying this, but it's 100% true".

Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in Game Of Thrones, replied to his tweet and wrote: "Or maybe they (celebrities) have a platform to speak out about it and help get rid of the stigma of mental illness which affects 1 in 4 people in United Kingdom per year".

Turner has spoken out to raise awareness of the importance of mental health before, saying in a message to her followers on World Suicide Prevention Day earlier this year: "You're stronger than you think. But we have to be careful mental illness doesn't become like a Gucci handbag". There is a danger it can become "fashionable"'. One of the greatest reasons being, I believe, is because mental illness has so much stigma surrounding it.

'But please go ahead and shun them back into silence'.

But her comments weren't taken well by others in the entertainment industry.

Utah Driver Participating in Viral ‘Bird Box Challenge’ Crashes Vehicle While Blindfolded
Police said they didn't learn about the story behind Monday's crash until Friday. As for the teen, she now faces reckless driving charges.

She added: 'You are not alone, you can manage your illness, and people who make fun of it are the minority. not you.

Meanwhile Great British Bake Off victor Nadiya Hussain wrote a response to his initial reaction to Callard's claim with: 'You haven't got a clue'. You are loved and supported'.

Beverley, who two months off from Corrie in 2016 after the medication she'd been taking for years was discontinued, has voiced concerns about depression being glamorised in the past. She also made the point that joking about mental health is not the way to enter into that conversation.

While Turner didn't directly respond to his goading, she did post a string of additional tweets regarding mental health.

One user then demanded: "Maybe @piersmorgan would like to identify for us which celebs are faking mental health problems and say it to their faces on GMB?"
