Ted Cruz slams Iowa Republican's 'stupid' remarks on white supremacy

McCarthy didn't specify as to whether he, as the top ranking Republican leader in the U.S. House, would strip King of his committee assignments or whether he would either implement or seek some other punishment for King's comments. He said he rejected the "labels" of white nationalism and white supremacy, as well as "the evil ideology they define".

"When people with opinions similar to King's open their mouths, they damage not only the Republican Party and the conservative brand but also our nation as a whole", Scott opined. "That is not the America I know, and it's most certainly not the party of Lincoln".

Former Republican Florida governor and 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush, the son of one former president and brother of another, condemned King's actions and called for a Republican to defeat King in his 2020 re-election campaign.

"I have a scheduled meeting with him on Monday", he said, vowing: "I tell you this, action will be taken".

"I will not stand back as a leader of this party, believing in this nation that all are created equal, that that stands or continues to stand and have any role with us", McCarthy said.

"I'm having a serious conversation with Congressman Steve King about his future and role in this Republican Party", he said.

She also explained to him why she tucks her hair under her hat while she's on the field. Sarah Thomas keeps making history.

King serves on the Agriculture, Small Business and Judiciary committees, and chairs Judiciary's subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice.

"We have made significant progress in our nation, and while there is still work to do, we can not let these intolerant and hateful views hold us back".

Asked to elaborate on what repercussions King may face, McCarthy simply responded that "a number of things" would occur. "The new normal around here is to praise white supremacists and nationalism as something that shouldn't be shunned", Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol.

Cruz joined other members of his party Sunday morning in criticizing King's words. It is wrong. And I think we need that clarity.

In November's election, King narrowly defeated his Democratic challenger, Democrat J.D. Scholten, by 3 percentage points.

Assistant Senate Majority Leader Randy Feenstra, a Republican from Hull, announced last week that he would run against King in 2020.
