The Rajasthan health minister Raghu Sharma ordered an inquiry into the shocking incident in which the nursing staff of a health centre in Jaisalmer pulled out a baby with brutal force, severing its head, on Thursday.
"Doctors at the government hospital in Jodhpur found that the body of the baby was split into two and only the head remained, while the other half was already taken out".
The incident rocked the state's health department.
The father of the baby has alleged that the hospital staff tried to conceal the matter and didn't inform his family about the botch-up and tried to hide the part of the baby's body which was pulled out.
Dr Sharma has also been taken off duty while the investigation continues.
The woman's husband has lodged a complaint against the Ramgarh hospital staff but the police is yet to arrest them.
"We have registered a case against two staffers of Ramgarh hospital and have interrogated them", he was quoted as saying. A mother of three kids, this was Deeksha's fourth delivery. She was then sent to Jodhpur in a serious condition. After the incident, the nurse along with a colleague deposited the lower part of the foetus in the centre's mortuary and asked the family of the victim to take her to Jaisalmer for further treatment.
The doctors then informed the victim's family members about the whole incident.
Dr Usha Duggad, principal medical officer at Jawahar government hospital said it was a rare case.
