AMI, Saudi Official Respond After Bezos Accuses Nat'l Enquirer of Blackmail

There’s another shoe to drop’ It sure looks like the Enquirer’s blackmail of Jeff Bezos was meant to protect the Saudi crown prince

The explicit material, which is the centre of a "blackmail" row between the world's richest man and the National Enquirer, was allegedly passed to the U.S. tabloid by Michael Sanchez.

Sanchez told the Washington Post that numerous people at AMI informed him that the National Enquirer was doing "a takedown to make Trump happy".

Minutes later, however, the attorney said he could confirm that "it's not Saudi Arabia, it's not President Trump (and) it's not Roger Stone". He is also the manager of his sister, Lauren Sanchez, a former TV anchor. The investigators have not said how they believe Michael Sanchez came into possession of his sister's intimate messages.

Michael Sanchez did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment on Monday.

American Media, Inc., which owns the National Enquirer, fired back at Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Friday after he publicly accused the publication of extortion and blackmail.

Though AMI has resisted revealing the source of the texts - which include some hot one-liners, like, "I want to hold you tight" - the Daily Beast notes that a lawyer for the company "strongly hinted" that Sanchez was the source during an interview with ABC Sunday.

"The brother of Jeff Bezos' mistress, Lauren Sanchez, supplied the couple's racy texts to the National Enquirer, multiple sources inside AMI, the tabloid's parent company, told The Daily Beast", the outlet reports.

The National Enquirer said it followed Bezos and his mistress for four months, "across five states and 40,000 miles, tailed them in private jets, swanky limos, helicopter rides, romantic hikes, five-star hotel hideaways, intimate dinner dates and "quality time" in hidden love nests".

The investigators have since turned over the results of their probe to lawyer Richard Ben-Veniste for review and possible referral to law enforcement.

Mr Ben-Veniste served as special prosecutor during the Watergate scandal. He said Pecker intermediaries threatened to publish embarrassing explicit photos of him if he didn't intervene in an investigation into AMI by The Washington Post, which Bezos owns. In that same tweet, Trump called Bezos "Jeff Bozo". It's a nice feeling...
