Fatal airbag recall = 1.7 m

Between Subaru, Tesla, B-M-W, Volkswagen, Daimler vans, Mercedes, and Ferrari it's for more than 1.7 million vehicles.

The air bags can hurl shrapnel into drivers and passengers. World-wide at least twenty-three people have died so far and hundreds more injured.

The moves, announced Friday by the US government, are part of the largest series of automotive recalls in USA history. Because the enormous, global recall is being carried out in stages, another 10 million cars are expected to be recalled later this year.

The airbags, made by Japanese company Takata, feature an inflator that uses explosives to quickly pump up the bag during a crash. The most unsafe inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity.

A consumer alert has been issued about a massive recall involving potentially deadly air bags.

The airbag recalls, which began in 2001, are being phased in over time and managed by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Subaru's recall includes 826,144 examples of the Forester, Outback, and Legacy models manufactured between 2010 and 2014.

Super League would have cost big clubs their popularity - Ceferin

Volkswagen/Audi: 119,394 vehicles from model years 2015-17.

BMW: 266,044 vehicles from model years 2000-04.

Daimler's van division, Tesla, and Ferrari recalled 159,689, 68,763, and 11,176 cars, respectively.

By last December, more than 50 million vehicles had been recalled because of Takata airbags.

Six automakers from the United States and overseas have added 1.7 million cars to the roster of vehicles that need to be recalled to fix a potentially deadly defect.
