Google plans to give the Pixel 4 this 2018 Apple iPhone feature

However, the recently filed patent by Google could reveal some information about the next-generation Pixel-branded smartphone.

Google launched Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones in October and both smartphones have been praised for their exceptional cameras.

The Google Pixel 3 series of smartphone may have been out on the market for less than six months, but that isn't stopping the search engine from marching forward with the development of its successor. It doesn't have two main cameras nor does use the full extent of dual SIM capabilities.

There are actually several different versions of dual-SIM: Dual SIM, Single Standby (DSSS); Dual SIM, Dual Standby (DSDS); and Dual SIM, Dual Active (DSDA). A recent change in the AOSP (Android Open Source Project) Gerrit system shows that the next Pixel flagship will have a built-in dual-SIM functionality, reports XDA Developers. The most common is Dual SIM Dual Standby, wherein both SIMs are registered on the network at once, and both can receive calls / SMS, but generally only if the other SIM isn't already being used for that objective.

This gritty success was the ideal preparation for hosting Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last 16 first leg on Wednesday.

The Googler seems to suggest that this year's Pixel phones, which will run on Android Q, of course, will have DSDS dual SIM functionality.

It's not clear if Google is planning to use DSDA or DSDS for the Pixel 4, though the former is probably more likely. So technically speaking, Google may be able to introduce real Dual SIM, Dual Active support for the Pixel 3 with a software update if the company wanted to.

We're nearly certainly going to get Android Q arriving with the Pixel 4, ready to take advantage of that dual-SIM functionality. The same commit mentions that the Pixel 3 also supports dual-SIM use, but it's restricted to dogfooding. It will be interesting to see if the dual SIM support will be available in all regions, though.
