Manchester United Legend Paul Scholes Becomes New Oldham Manager

Scholes

Paul Scholes is expected to become the next manager of Oldham Athletic within the next 24 hours.

The Manchester United legend finally received the clearance to take on this new job, following an EFL board meeting regarding the issue, reports Sky Sports.

Scholes is part-owner of City and because of rule 103.1.3 in the Football League handbook it looked like appointing the former England International to the job would breach their regulations about duel interest and ownership.

The publication reveals that Scholes had approached the club to succeed Frankie Bunn as manager, but the laws guiding the league made it complicating for the ex-United star.

And so this new experience actually warns you to put your phone down, and only check the directions momentarily. That said, it looks like it won't be taking over as the standard method of using Google Maps.

Scholes has previously spoken of his desire to enter into management, his only professional experience coming as part of Ryan Giggs' backroom team in 2014.

The 44-year-old, a BT pundit, also confirmed last week that he would be prepared to give up his media work if it meant that he could return to football.

However, owner Abdallah Lemsagam moved to appoint a full time manager and will turn to Oldham-born Scholes on a full-time basis - his first game in charge will be Yeovil at home next Tuesday with Wild likely to be caretaker-manager for Saturday's clash at Crawley.

Pete Wild had been installed as manager on an interim basis following the sacking on Frankie Bunn on December 27, and masterminded a 2-1 victory away at Premier League Fulham in the FA Cup third round.
