Measles cases reported in several Houston-area communities

The Vancouver Clinic in Vancouver Wash. to warn patients and visitors of a measles outbreak Jan. 30 2019

The current measles outbreak in Clark County and one diagnosed case in King County are examples of why the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Vaccine is a crucial requirement.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends two doses of measles vaccine, one given at between 12 months and 15 months of age and one between ages 4 and 6.

The Bell County Public Health District said they can confirm a possible measles case in a child in Western Bell County on Monday. The amount of measles vaccines given out in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington counties for the last week of January was three times as high as the same period a year ago. "It's a very serious disease that can be prevented by vaccination".

All three cases are children who were not vaccinated or did not complete their vaccine series.

The department did not release any information about the person who contracted measles, citing patient confidentiality. There were 200 vaccinations given per day last year in that last week of January, and 600 per day this year.

Measles is transmitted through direct contact with an infected person or through the air when the infected person coughs or sneezes.

Yastremska Comes Back To Claim Title
Yastremska was down 5-2 in the third but twice the Australian Tomljanovic failed to close it out. In Sunday's final Tomljanovic will meet the victor between Dayana Yastremska and Magda Linette.

The three individuals involved in the new cases were in close contact with the first Multnomah County resident who tested positive for measles January 25, according to the Oregon Health Authority.

Clark County Public Health, 360-397-8021.

Washington County, Ore., Public Health, 503-846-3594.

Clark County also listed 11 suspected cases of measles. The call center is open daily.

Symptoms include a high fever, coughing, runny nose and watery, red eyes between seven and 14 days after infection, the U.S. National Library of Medicine says.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of the virus should call their physician. Measles is so contagious that if one person has it, 90% of the people close to that person who are not yet immune could become infected. After someone is exposed to measles, illness develops in about one to three weeks.
