Prince Philip surrenders driving licence

Duke of Edinburgh car crash victim feels 'safer' now he's given up his licence

She has been staying at Sandringham since December 20, 2018 and traditionally spends around six or seven weeks there, before returning to Buckingham Palace for her official duties.

Norfolk Police released a statement confirming that the Duke had voluntarily surrendered his licence to officers and that the "investigation file for the collision has been passed to the Crown Prosecution Service for their consideration".

Prince Philip has chose to stop driving at the age of 97, less than a month after he was involved in a collision that left two women injured, Buckingham Palace said Saturday.

The news comes almost a month after Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth, was involved in a auto crash near the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk .

The accident in question occurred on January 17 this year when the Duke of Edinburgh was driving his Land Rover near the royal family's estate Sandringham House in Sandringham and he collided with another auto, a Kia.

The 97-year-old has voluntarily surrendered his driving licence but witnesses fears a "deal" has been done.

The former champions were third overall in last season's constructors' championship, winning four races. Both drivers are at Silverstone today for the first run of the new auto .

In the letter, dated January 21, the Duke of Edinburgh said he was "deeply sorry" for the incident, and wished her "speedy recovery from a very distressing experience".

Philip had to be helped out of his overturned vehicle but wasn't injured.

Just two days after the accident, British media published photos of Prince Philip driving a Land Rover Freelander without a seatbelt near the royal residence at Sandringham in eastern England.

The other driver, a 28-year-old woman, suffered cuts to her knee and a 45-year-old woman passenger in the auto, which also had a nine-month-old baby on board, sustained a broken wrist.

"The sun was shining low over the main road".

She told the newspaper: "I thought it was really nice that he signed off as "Philip" and not the formal title".
