Read the letter 'heartbroken' Meghan Markle sent her father

Meghan Markle and Thomas Markle

Mr. Markle this weekend shared "devastating" details of a letter sent to him by his daughter last summer with the Mail on Sunday.

She's been plagued by terrible comments from members of the controversial Markle family since she started dating Prince Harry.

The letter's existence emerged last week, after close friends of the duchess gave a series of anonymous interviews to People magazine.

In the letter the duchess pleaded with him to stop "lying" to the press writing, "If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop".

The former Hollywood lighting director, who now lives in Mexico, said that he never meant to make the handwritten letter public "out of respect for Meghan" - but says he has been forced to do so now because its contents have been falsely portrayed. Instead, it was a dagger to the heart'. I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may feel) there's no way out, but if you take a moment to pause I think you'll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world.

Meghan directly addressed the CCTV footage which proved that Thomas's paparazzi photos were staged. In the letter, Meghan wrote that her father broke her heart "into a million pieces" by criticising her marriage to Prince Harry. Since then, he has spoken critically of Meghan to several tabloids.

"I have only ever loved, protected, and defended you, offering whatever financial support I could, worrying about your health", she continued.

But in August, three months after her wedding, Meghan Markle fought back with a scathing five-page letter to her father, Thomas Markle, begging him to stop exploiting her relationship with her husband for his personal gain.

Mr Markle was countering media reports that he has not reached out to her after an unnamed friend of the duchess told U.S. magazine People: 'He's never called; he's never texted.

Meghan also admonishes her father for siding with her half-sister Samantha - who has attacked her in the press - while she "silently suffered at the hand of her vicious lies".

Kensington Palace declined to comment on the letter.
