Savage arrested by ICE

61st Annual Grammy Awards- Show

I know that sounds like a long shot, but in 2014, Abraham-Joseph was arrested for felony drug charges and wasn't looked into by ICE at that time.

Backstage, Dua Lipa, who won the award for Best New Artist last night, commented on Savage's predicament in a press Q&A, saying: "It's quite upsetting given that he hasn't actually done anything and he's also given so much to American culture even being a Brit". 1's lawyer has since accused ICE of working to "intimidate" the artist into "giving up his right to fight to remain in the United States". He was placed in deportation proceedings in federal immigration court.

On Jan. 28, Abraham-Joseph was a guest on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" and performed his song "A Lot", where he changed his lyrics to "I can't imagine my kids stuck at the border / Flint still need water / People was innocent, couldn't get lawyers". He came here when he was 13 years old and his parents overstayed their work visas.

According to ICE, the rapper entered the USA legally in July 2005 but failed to depart and became unlawfully present when his Visa expired in 2006. He returned to the United States under a valid H-4 visa on July 22, 2005. Mr. Abraham-Joseph has been continuously physically present in the United States for nearly 20 years, except for a brief visit overseas. Unfortunately, in 2006 Mr. Abraham-Joseph's legal status expired through no fault of his own.

He has previously described a childhood in Atlanta during interviews.

The type of visa Savage applied for is one that is set aside for victims of crime, which the rapper's lawyers believe he would be eligible for after surviving a shooting in the U.S.in 2013.

U Visas are given to non-citizen victims of crime who intend to co-operate with United States authorities.

On Tuesday, attorneys Charles Kuck, Dina LaPolt and Alex Spiro said in a statement that they had been in talks with immigration officials to "clarify" the rapper's legal standing and his eligibility for bond. Writing from his personal social media account, Carter has called the detention "an absolute travesty". Over the weekend, Abraham-Joseph's family members posted social media images of dozens of handwritten letters from Atlanta-area school children calling on immigration officials not to deport the rapper.

Since 21 Savage's arrest, a number of high-profile celebrities and politicians have thrown their support behind the rapper, demanding his release. In real life, everything I do, I want to bring everybody together.
