Who Is Anthony Edwards? Five-star 2019 Prospect Commits to Georgia

Georgia coach Tom Crean speaks during the SEC men’s NCAA college basketball media day in Birmingham Ala. More

This is a monster get for the Georgia Bulldogs, obviously.

Since the ESPN basketball recruiting database began in 2007, Edwards is the highest-ranked player to commit to Georgia - and the first five-star prospect to choose the Bulldogs.

Edwards is a five-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite, and he is the top-ranked shooting guard.

"Two of my favorite players, Dwyane Wade and Victor Oladipo, were coached by Tom Crean and he's a great coach", Edwards was quoted as saying by 247Sports.

Originally a member of the 2020 recruiting class, Anthony Edwards recently made a decision to join the 2019 grouping instead. A slight ratings adjustment or even one commitment or decommitment could completely shift the placement of both programs. He took an official visit to Georgia on December 1, visited Kentucky in late January, and was supposed to take another trip to Florida State this past weekend before he cancelled it.

Edwards, a 6-5 wing from Holy Spirit Preparatory School in Atlanta and a McDonalds All-American, is spurning the likes of Kentucky and Florida State to make his pledge for UGA.

Edwards lives approximately 90 minutes away from Georgia's campus and he admitted the opportunity of remaining close to his family while at college was very important to him.
