Wizards' John Wall needs Achilles surgery; out another year

Wizards' Wall to have surgery on ruptured left Achilles

John Wall will undergo surgery on his left Achilles tendon after he ruptured it by slipping and falling in his home, the Wizards announced Tuesday.

"Wall had developed an infection in the incision from initial surgery on January 8 (a debridement and fix of a Haglund's deformity and a chronic Achilles tendon injury in his left heel that was also performed by Dr. Anderson) and he suffered the rupture after slipping and falling in his home".

Ironically, Wall had said that one reason he elected to have the season-ending heel surgery was to avoid suffering a worse injury.

The Wizards say Wall will need approximately 12 months to recover before returning to full basketball activities.

US emergency-management chief Brock Long to resign
Long's improper use of government resources for personal travel fit a pattern among senior Trump administration officials. Long's permanent replacement will have to be nominated by President Donald Trump and confirmed by the Senate.

So the Achilles problem wasn't known until Monday. However, those talks apparently dissipated quickly, especially in the case of John Wall whose contract isn't the most franchise-friendly with this season marking the first of his $170 max extension.

The Wizards have remained optimistic this season about potentially making the playoffs but without Wall in the lineup, that possibility is looking grimmer. He's owed over $169 million through the 2022-23 season. "Considering he's a player who relies so much on his quickness and explosiveness, there's also no guarantee he'll recapture his pre-injury form". "Through it all, just try to make sure you better yourself each day".

This comes as devistating news to the Wizards, who will likely miss their star point guard for almost the entire 2019-2020 season.
