Wood takes three wickets as England fight back in third test

Ben Stokes watches practice from the dressing room

During the course of eight overs either side of tea Wood almost, but not quite, changed the entire outlook of English cricket, which has gone from bright and sunny in Sri Lanka before Christmas to dark and gloomy in the West Indies.

In the eye of the storm, one of the most devastating to hit even a Caribbean region used to such winds, Wood hit speeds of 95mph.

Sixteen wickets fell Sunday, with England quickly dismissed for 277 in its first innings and then bowling out West Indies for 154.

Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are unbeaten on half-centuries with England wearing down the West Indies to be a healthy 4-231 at stumps on the first day of their third cricket Test.

Campbell's wicket was particularly important because he was threatening to compile a big score quickly.

It was all triggered by an atrocious shot from Kraigg Brathwaite, the stand-in captain for the banned Jason Holder, the former Yorkshire player skying spinner Moeen Ali to Anderson at cow corner in a needless and brainless act of aggression.

Durham seamer Wood then had four wickets for the first time in a Test with his seventh ball of the third session, Darren Bravo picking out Root again in the cordon.

But Stokes and Buttler came together for an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 124 as two of England's traditionally aggressive batsmen, perhaps in light of recent criticism of the side's approach, reined in their natural game to guide their team to a strong position.

Kentucky escapes with 71-67 win over Mississippi State
Much has changed in the SEC women's basketball power structure in recent years, and Mississippi State has been a big part of that. That's how deadly Mississippi State can be; this went from a close game to a historic blowout in the final 12½ minutes.

At the start of the day England's batsmen collapsed to the West Indian fast bowlers yet again, this time operating effectively with the second new ball, as the visitors lost six wickets for 45 runs to be dismissed just before lunch.

Wood soon pocketed the wickets of Shai Hope and Roston Chase with consecutive balls during the 22nd over to mark his return to the global stage with a double-wicket maiden in his first over.

Whether Wood can produce such form in the Ashes this summer depends, to a large extent, on whether he can manage to stay on the field.

It was not a one-man show, though, at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium.

Moeen took 4-36, while Broad chipped in with a wicket, as well as a magnificent one-handed catch at long-off.

While it is unclear as to what exactly was said by Gabriel, the stump mics caught an interaction between the fast bowler and the England captain, which ended with Root saying: "There is nothing wrong in being gay".

Root's side dominated the third day, having resumed on 19-0, but there were further failures for openers Rory Burns and Keaton Jennings.

England lead by 142, red-hot favourites to claim a consolation win.
