Brandon Bolden Returning To Patriots After Season With Dolphins

Report Patriots bringing back RB Brandon Bolden

Though he's rarely used outside of the kicking game, Bolden did have one of the best rushing performances of his career against the Patriots last season, scoring touchdowns of 54 and 6 yards in the "Miami Miracle" game.

While they've taken a back seat and let other teams shell out some big bucks, the Patriots are expected to bring back one of their own when free agency officially begins Wednesday afternoon.

Bolden, who served as a backup and core special teams contributor with the Dolphins last season, agreed to a two-year deal with the Patriots on Wednesday, according to NFL Network. The 29-year-old's new contract terms have not yet been disclosed. The Patriots would have liked to bring him back after cut day past year, but lost the chance to when the Dolphins quickly signed him. However, he opted to instead sign with Miami, the Patriots' division rival.

Bolden is boisterous and was a well-liked teammate in New England, where he was signed as an undrafted rookie from Ole Miss in 2012. He started in place of Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl that season but allowed four completions for 80 yards in that 41-33 loss to Philadelphia. New England's transactions this time last year were relatively modest; two years ago, however, they surprised some people around the league by poaching Stephon Gilmore from the Buffalo Bills and signing him to a hefty contract. Bolden's offensive playing time plummeted in 2016.
