Disney rehires James Gunn to direct 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3'

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Disney has apparently had a change of heart when it comes to giving James Gunn the boot as director of the forthcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie, which the studio did back in July 2018 after some controversial old tweets of Gunn's were surfaced by a right-wing blogger.

Previous reports indicated that "Vice" director Adam McKay was in the running to take over "Guardians" for Gunn.

Back in July 2018, Gunn was sacked by Disney when controversial tweets, from many years prior, resurfaced where Gunn made joked about pedophilia and rape.

Gunn directed the first two Guardians films as well as co-writing 2014's Guardians of the Galaxy and writing 2017's Guardian of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Last July, Disney fired Gunn after decade-old tweets resurfaced in which he joked about topics including pedophilia and rape.

Ex-Jets DT Mike Pennel joins Patriots
He played in 16 games in each of the last two seasons for the Jets, totaling 10 starts while tallying 62 tackles. In 2017, Pennel recorded 35 tackles, while in 2018 he had 27 tackles and a pass defense.

Gunn earlier apologized for the tweets, which he called "unfortunate efforts to be provocative". "To be honest with you I don't know if I want to work for Disney", he said to Jonathan Ross at the time.

"It's not to say I'm better, but I am very, very different than I was a few years ago; today I try to root my work in love and connection and less in anger".

Immediately after Gunn's dismissal, the primary cast of the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise made a public statement calling for his re-instatement, with Drax actor Dave Bautista going so far as saying he would balk at reprising his role in the franchise again should the writer/director not be on-board. In the past, I have apologised for humour of mine that hurt people.

"For the record, when I made these shocking jokes, I wasn't living them out". I don't need to make $20 million a film. Disney Chairman Alan Horn at the time said Gunn's words were inconsistent with the studio's values. "Love you to you all".

According to the reps involved in the process, the decision to reinstate Gunn in his rightful chair came down to a heartfelt apology that was issued directly in person.
