Drugs Put a Stop to Judgment Sales in Asia

Sega halts Judgment shipments and digital sales in Japan following actor Pierre Taki's arrest [Update]

According to the Mainichi News, investigators searched Taki's auto and Tokyo home based on tips they had received. Earlier this week, the 51-year-old Masanori Taki admitted to using cocaine and was arrested after testing positive to the drug.

Taki was arrested for alleged cocaine use which, given Japan's extremely tough drug laws, could result in a seven-year prison sentence. Investigators were first tipped off about the actor's drug use over a year ago, and are now searching his phone to learn more about the extent of his drug use.

Following the arrest of the actor, Judgment's publisher SEGA has issued a statement that the actor's arrest is "highly regrettable". Sega will not be updating the official website and has deleted every tweet related to the game, as well.

In a press release, Sega said, "Sega has received the arrest reports and are now confirming the facts, but for the time being, we will voluntarily refrain from shipments and digital sales of [Judgment], as well as from things like posting the product's homepage. We apologize for any trouble this causes our customers or other concerned parties".

We've contacted SEGA for more information on its next steps, and if it's considering anything drastic just yet.

"With a final product already in circulation in Japan, I can not believe Sega will keep the game hidden away from sight for long". Last year, the company replaced actor Hiroki Narimiya in Yakuza 4 after his own cocaine allegations.

Voice actor Pierre Taki plays the role of Kyohei Hamura, the captain of the Matsugane family in Judgment.

Judgment launched for PlayStation 4 in December 2018 in Japan, and is due out in the Americas and Europe on June 25. Assuming Sega takes a similar approach for Judgment's future, it will likely mean some significant delays. Newsweek has reached out to Sega for comment, but has yet to recieve as reply. Disney is reportedly trying to get him removed from the upcoming Frozen 2, for which he provided the Japanese voice of Olaf, but that should be a relatively simple substitution.
