Epic Games Store unveils roadmap for new features

Epic Games has released a roadmap for the Epic Games Store which include plans for cloud saves, achievements, user reviews, a store page redesign, and more.

One of the criticisms players have leveled at the Epic Games Store since it launched in December is that it's pretty bare-bones compared to Steam. He also said that the Epic Store doesn't use the Steam API due to Epic's own user privacy concerns, not regarding Steam's API in particular, but because of a "general concern of APIs collecting more data than expected".

"Epic is controlled by Tim Sweeney", said Vogel.

We use a tracking pixel (tracking.js) for our Support-A-Creator program so we can pay creators. The Epic Game Store will also start hosting video, provide an "optimized delta solution" to help developers reduce the size of game patches, support DLC add-ons, and streamline the sign-in process to allow players to "get into their offline games faster". Vogel added that the launcher sends a hardware survey at regular intervals, but this is outlined in the company's privacy policy.

Additionally, the launcher scans active processes to prevent any games that are now running from updating, and none of this information is sent to Epic, according to Vogel. Epic also plans to have the Epic Games Store be accessible on Android devices.

"Tencent is a significant, but minority shareholder in Epic", co-founder and CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in response to the conspiracy theory in one Reddit thread.

China foreign investment law: Bill aims to ease global concerns

You guys are right that we ought to only access the localconfig.vdf file after the user chooses to import Steam friends.

Sweeney himself eventually joined the conversation, admitting that the app should only access the localconfig.vdf file after someone chooses to import Steam friends. "The current implementation is a remnant left over from our rush to implement social features in the early days of Fortnite".

Still, Sweeney acknowledged that Epic making local access to Steam files without direct permission might justifiably rub some users the wrong way. "Since this issue came to the forefront we're going to fix it".

"Interested users can find localconfig.vdf and other Steam configuration files in their Steam Client's installation directory and open them in a text editor to see what data is contained in these files".

In a statement sent to Bleeping Computer today, Valve's Doug Lombardi said that the company is "looking into what information the Epic launcher collects from Steam".
