The company also launched 330 new detection classifiers to help detect bad ads at the page level, removing almost 734,000 publishers from its network and bad ads from a total of 1.5m million apps.

"In aggregate, 3ve produced more than 10,000 counterfeit domains, and generated over 3 billion daily bid requests at its peak", the blog reads.

Usually, the number of fraudulent ads (those that advertise fraudulent activity, spread malware or something similar) that Google blocks on a yearly basis rises, year-over-year.

Google took down 2.3bn ads across its network previous year, almost one billion fewer "bad ads" it had to remove in 2017. Some 734,000 publisher and app developers were removed from its ad network, and ads were removed entirely from almost 1.5 million apps, Google said.

In 2018 they terminated the accounts of one million bad advertiser accounts, which is twice as many as in 2017. Some policies include banning ads from for-profit bail bond providers and higher scrutiny on ticket resellers. The company removed more than 531,000 ads for bail bonds previous year.

In total, Google created 31 new ad policies to stop bad ads in problematic areas related to, ticket resellers, third-party, and local services such as bail bonds and addiction treatment facilities. Nearly a million of these accounts were banned in the past year.

When it comes to fake news and the political sphere, Google shares that it had verified 143,000 election advertisements in the US, thanks to a it rolled out previous year. With that technology, coupled with manual reviews, the company said it removed ads from more than 27 million pages that violated its policies a year ago.

Google also launched election ads policies in the USA ahead of the midterm elections past year and created a political ads transparency report to provide more information about who bought election ads.

The internet is full of scam artists and malicious actors searching for targets. The company seems to be doing a good job at removing ads that break its rules.
