Supporters note that New Zealand's parliament stands foursquare behind her, with even the major opposition party in favor of the ban, but it's hard politically for the opposition to get crosswise with a country's leader after a major terror attack.

Breitbart News reported that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a ban on "military-style" semiautomatic rifles and "high-capacity" magazines.

"On 15 March our history changed forever. We must follow New Zealand's lead, take on the NRA and ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States", tweeted Sanders. "Now, our laws will, too", Ardern said Thursday.
