Hollywood Cheers New Zealand Gun Ban Following Christchurch Shooting

New Zealand's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern speaks during a press conference following the March 15 mosque shooting in Christchurch New Zealand. Prime Minister Ardern says New Zealand is immediately banning assault rifles

Supporters note that New Zealand's parliament stands foursquare behind her, with even the major opposition party in favor of the ban, but it's hard politically for the opposition to get crosswise with a country's leader after a major terror attack.

Breitbart News reported that Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a ban on "military-style" semiautomatic rifles and "high-capacity" magazines.

"On 15 March our history changed forever. We must follow New Zealand's lead, take on the NRA and ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons in the United States", tweeted Sanders. "Now, our laws will, too", Ardern said Thursday.

SYDNEY, March 21 -A leading Australian media personality faced a stinging backlash today after mocking New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern's accent during a moving speech in parliament about the Christchurch mosque attacks. The new law will carve out additional restrictions, though the government says it plans to allow New Zealanders to keep guns they might use for hunting or other "legitimate" purposes.

The buyback would cost up to NZ$200 million ($138 million), she said.

Democrat congresswoman, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, highlighted in a tweet that the Sandy Hook massacre, where 20 children were shot dead, occurred six years ago and not even that tragedy could convince the Senate to hold a vote on universal background checks. "This is what leadership looks like", she added.
