British auto maker Jaguar Land Rover has been forced to recall 44,000 cars after tests revealed they may emit "excessive" levels of carbon dioxide.
Land Rover says it is contacting all owners and remedial work will be carried out free of charge.
A new report by industry journal, Automotive News Europe, the European Union's Safety Gate Rapex claims JLR vehicles with 2.0-litre engines (both petrol and diesel) may emit "excessive levels of Carbon dioxide and may not conform with the certified condition".
In a statement, the manufacturer said: "Jaguar Land Rover is conducting a voluntary recall following the identification of Carbon dioxide performance variability with certain Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles fitted with 2.0L diesel or petrol engines".
