Meghan wore a pair of earrings given to her by the country's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern when the Duke and Duchess made an official visit to the country past year.

Britain's Prince Harry and his wife Meghan paid their respects on Tuesday for the victims of last week's mass shooting at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand in which 50 people were killed.

They put their knowledge of Maori customs to good use, flawlessly greeting delegates with a hongi before signing the book of condolence with the word "arohanui", which loosely translates to "much love/with deep affection".

The couple were asked by the Queen to represent the British royal family at the event, having been the last members to visit the country when they toured the South Pacific in October.

"We have all been fortunate to spend time in Christchurch and have felt the warm, open-hearted and generous spirit that is core to its remarkable people", they wrote.

Meghan cradled her bump throughout the visit, including when they spoke with the High Commissioner of New Zealand, Jerry Mateparae.

The Sussexes and the Cambridges sent a joint message, saying: "Our hearts go out to the families and friends of the people who lost their lives in the devastating attack in Christchurch". The pregnant royal, who is expecting her first child with husband Prince Harry, paid tribute in a very special way - by wearing the earrings she was kindly gifted to her in New Zealand by the country's Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian, has been charged with one count of murder and appeared at court on Saturday. "We know that from this devastation and deep mourning, the people of New Zealand will unite to show that such evil can never defeat compassion and tolerance", the statement continued.
