NASA’s deep space launch system is ‘coming together’

Administrator Jim Bridenstine said he is considering switching to commercial rockets to keep the June 2020 launch date

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine praised the agency's 2020 budget proposal from the Trump administration today (March 11), describing how the budget will help the agency reach the moon, and then continue on to Mars.

Nasa administrator - Jim Bridenstine - was a guest on a U.S. science and technology radio show Science Friday, when he made the comment.

U.S. space agency NASA has selected nine teams to study the moon samples collected during the Apollo missions in the 1970s, Trend reports citing Xinhua. He also said the United States will have astronauts on the moon again in less than 10 years and this time, he says, 'we will stay'.

Bridenstine responded "absolutely" to a question from a Twitter user who asked whether women will be included in the agency's next trip to the moon. "In fact, it is likely to be a woman, the first next person on the Moon".

"NASA is committed to making sure we have a broad and diverse set of talent", Bridenstine said.

Lead flight director Mary Lawrence will oversee the station crew from Mission Control and Jackie Kagey will serve as lead spacewalk officer. The budget request for 2020 provides $21 billion to the space agency, which is more than the budget request in 2019, but is $480 million less than what NASA ultimately received a year ago, according to Space News.

But some major Democratic donors say they will not support her after her vilification of former Democratic Minnesota Sen. Al Franken to resign in 2017 following allegations of harassment against him dating back to his Hollywood career .

The first six women joined NASA's Astronaut Corps in 1978, making up almost 10 per cent of the active astronaut corps.

NASA's SLS, or Space Launch System, rocket, could do everything in one fell swoop.

"We will go to the Moon in the next decade with innovative, new technologies and systems to explore more locations across the lunar surface than ever before", Bridenstine said in a statement Monday.

However, the water observed by the LAMP instrument does not decrease when the Moon is shielded by the Earth and the region influenced by its magnetic field, suggesting water builds up over time, rather than "raining" down directly from the solar wind.

'We will use what we learn as we move forward to the Moon to take the next giant leap - sending astronauts to Mars'.

NASA offered a rough timeline of when it expects to actually see the two spacecraft head skyward, with an unmanned test flight tentatively scheduled for 2020 and a manned mission around the Moon slated to take place by 2023.
