Physicist Stephen Hawking celebrated on new British coin

Stephen Hawking's life is set to be celebrated with a 50p coin

Hawking, one of the world's best-known theoretical physicists who died aged 76 previous year, joins the ranks of other eminent scientists such Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin to have a commemorative coin in honour of one of his greatest discoveries that black holes should not be all black.

Hawking, who died on March 14 previous year, had once said that he thought his discovery that black holes were not entirely black would be his "greatest achievement".

The Royal Mint on Tuesday said he would be commemorated in a new 50 pence coin inspired by his pioneering work on black holes.

The physicist died previous year at the age of 76, having become one of the most renowned leaders in his field.

"We have remained in close contact with the Hawking family throughout this case and I am grateful to them - as they approach the anniversary of Professor Hawking's death - and others for sharing their concerns with us".

"As one of the world's most brilliant physicists, he was a great ambassador for science".

New Aladdin Trailer Puts Will Smith's Genie on Full Display
It looks like Will Smith is hosting SNL and they made a digital short mocking the trend of Disney live-action remakes. It's safe to say that the dubious public reaction to the first Aladdin trailer isn't exactly what Disney wished for.

This theory and more were explained in his famous book, A Brief History of Time.

His daughter Lucy said: 'It is a great privilege.

This also implies a way to make black holes less black through the emission of a weird kind of radiation, a finding that Hawking proudly counted as one of his landmark contributions to science.

The coin will be available to buy from the Royal Mint later this month, with prices ranging from 10 pounds (13.42 US dollars) for a brilliant uncirculated version of the coin to 795 pounds for a gold proof coin.

Hawking's discovery led scientists to the unavoidable conclusion that information is lost as a black hole forms and subsequently evaporates.

She said she wanted to reflect the way he "made hard subjects accessible, engaging and relatable", in particular on black holes.
